Former Austin Mayor Hit by a Hardball
This is painful to watch…and we will probably be seeing it a lot. The clip shows Texas State Senator and former Austin Mayor Kirk Watson unable to answer Chris Matthews’ challenge to name a single legislative accomplishment by Barack Obama during his tenure in the US Senate.
I feel sorry for Kirk Watson, who was Austin’s mayor during the 90’s boom years, and is generally remembered fondly for bridging progressive and business interests. He is clearly aiming for national politics and this could hamper his ambitions (not to mention Obama’s). I wish he had prepared. This just goes to show that even state senators base their judgments of candidates more on feelings than facts.
